In Your Corner

Short Stories on Adolescent Mental Well-Being

by Naina Srivastava & Fazal Kidwai

in association with Rationable

Do you remember when you were a teenager?

The fun, the laughter, the rebellious adventures? But do you also remember the chaos within you, the storm of emotions, stress, the longing to belong, and the fight to fit in?

Your own teenager is going through all this and so much more. But how will you help them when their only response is, “I’m fine” when they are so clearly not?

This book holds ten heart-warming stories that show the torment of adolescent mental health issues – like ADHD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, substance abuse, gender identity and more – and the importance of becoming your teenager’s best friend so they can tell you how they truly feel.

Only when you’re in your teen’s corner, ready to fight the world for them, will you be able to ensure your adolescent child stays safe and grows up to have a healthy, resilient mind.

Seems impossible? This book will show you how. After all, when it comes to your child, you are always in their corner, and you will do whatever it takes, no matter what.

About the Authors

Naina Srivastava

Naina worked in banking for a decade before she joined KHUSHII and Save the Children, India, to help underprivileged children with education, healthcare, and protection. Now, as a mother of two boys, she wanted to write this book to empower the parents, guardians, and teachers of teens to aid them through the toughest years in terms of their mental well-being. She also wants to increase awareness, compassion, and empathy for mental health issues, especially in India, and make a positive difference in the world.

Fazal Kidwai

Naina's husband, Fazal, is a filmmaker who has made documentaries on women and child concerns, sports, Indian arts and crafts, sustainable tourism, and many other socially significant topics for almost two decades. While researching a documentary a few years ago, Fazal discovered the glaring gaps in India's mental health infrastructure and the stigmatisation around mental illness that plagued our society. These issues stayed on his mind until Naina and he decided to write this book, which is informed by much of his research.
